Keep it Real Math Stories from Real Life Vol. 2 (Grades 3-9)
How many times have students asked, “When am I ever going to use this?” While math is part of everyday life, students need to see those real-world connections. This collection of passages helps bridge that gap by placing math skills in meaningful, real-world contexts.
Volume 2 includes passages across five domains—Geometry, Number System, Ratio/Proportion, Expressions/Equations, and Statistics/Probability—plus a bonus Fractions passage. Each domain features four passages written at varying grade levels, with adjusted reading levels. Domain overviews provide questions, answers, standards, and targeted skills, supporting differentiated instruction such as center-based activities.
Volume 1 covers the remaining domains—Addition/Subtraction, Multiplication/Division, Place Value, Fractions, and Measurement—typically taught in earlier grades.
These passages are part of the Degrees of Math Power (DMP) assessment package, designed for formative use to gauge students’ instructional levels across all 10 domains prior to instruction. For more information, please contact Educational Vistas.
